Working families deserve to live in affordable homes and own successful small businesses – but too many are unable to turn these dreams into a reality.
LEDC equips Latinos and other DC-area residents with the skills and financial tools to create a better future for their families and communities. Participants in our programs learn how to buy and stay in their homes, take control of the decisions affecting their apartment buildings, and start or expand small businesses.
At LEDC, we believe that the entire DC area is stronger when all families have the power to achieve financial independence and join with their neighbors to improve their quality of life.
We provide services in three main areas— small business development and microlending, affordable housing preservation, and homeownership and foreclosure counseling.
Small Business Development & Microlending Services: With our microloans, technical assistance, training, and commercial façade improvements, LEDC helps small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in the DC area learn basic business skills and access credit to compete, thrive, and provide for their families and communities.
Homeownership and Foreclosure Counseling: We help people purchase their first home through classes, workshops, individual counseling, and application packaging for the DC Home Purchase Assistance Program. We also help homeowners protect their financial security by explaining the available options when facing the prospect of foreclosure and by serving as a mediator between homeowners and lenders.
